BEST BUDS!

Keno and Mini Sue are now best buds and even sharing a bed together....

_______________________________

Well, tomorrow is April 1 and it better start feeling more like Spring around here. I'll tolerate yucky weather in March, but April is my limit. I am getting fed up with the cold grey days.

Well, hubby called that assfault (sp???) guy again and he said that he didn't show up last Tuesday cause he got busy. Yeah, butthead, we ALL could have been busy if we weren't sitting around waiting for you to show up! Anyways, he is coming again on Friday. We have another company we want to call as well....might as well get two quotes.

I have a list of things that I want done before the summer flies away..never to be seen again for another 10 months. #1 - new driveway; #2 - new front door; #3 - Get my computer room cracked window replaced; #4 - replace garage windows; #5 - new kitchen cabinet doors; #6 - get car in garage repaired and up and running (or sold); #7 - repair cracks through the house on walls and ceilings; #8 - tear out old bushes in front of house and put in wood deck (maybe); #9 - redesign wall unit; #10 - buy new bigger TV for wall unit; #11 - new tires for jeep and repair throttle thingy; #12 - cry when summer ends and none of these things ever get done!!

We have a lot to do so we better get busy....

33 years ago today......

.....I became a mother of a third son. March 29, at exactly 4:34 p.m. I gave birth to my third son. I remember the day. I had prepared myself better this time. The last time I was lazy and gained weight and did no prenatal exercises and was in excruciating pain. I'm surprised that I even agreed to even get pregnate again. But I got drunk one night and agreed. (just kiddin') But I did agree at some point...(after lots and lots of beers!!) I figured after 2 boys what the hell were my chances for a darling blonde hair, blue eye, angel girl. Zero, Zilch, Nonooonooo. I knew the odds. But I did it anyway. As soon as those dominant male sperm started swimming and zeroed into my please-be-a-girl eggs...I knew that it was simply not to be. I was destined to be a mother of "my three sons" as my father told me when he came to visit me the day my son was born. But I also knew from the moment I held him in my arms that he was special. I loved him so much!!

So tonight he and his girlfriend came over and we took them out to dinner at Brann's Steakhouse. We had steak and drinks and the waitress brought us each a complimentary slice of birthday chocolate cheesecake for his birthday.

It's the first time I rode in his Hummer. Wow....it's like I needed a step ladder to even get into it!

Pictures of the event:

I took a pic of me in the backseat as we were driving to the restaurant....

Here's my son standing by his Hummer in the parking lot...

Son and girlfriend at our table....

Hubby and myself....

Aren't we just the perfect american family ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep....now we are....

The 80's were great compared to the 00's

I've been lazy and not posting much lately, I know. Last Friday I went to a high school musical play here in my town called "Back to the 80's". The auditorium was packed and they had to keep moving people down in order to get enough seats for everyone. It was a story about seniors in their last year of school...typical boy like the girl next door, but she likes the "cool" guy instead. And there was the 'new girl' and the 'nerdy guy'. The play had about 17 songs from the 80's so it was very nostalgic. The clothes were very 80's, etc. It had an amazing cast with tons of kids participating. The songs and choreography were great. A very enjoyable play. I think the last time I went to a high school play was when I was IN high school!! I've been to plays but not a high school play. The guy who played the nerdy character reminded me of Jerry Lewis's version in the "Nutty Professor". He was very talented.

Then Saturday night I got together with one of my friends for a burger and a few beers. I was home by midnight...and then I popped in the movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and watched it. I just LOVE that movie!

So I worked Monday this week and don't go back in until Friday. I got my end of things done, so boss has to do some catch up and we are waiting for info from the clients before we can finish some returns.

We have this one elderly lady, and for some reason she now has some court-appointed guardian who is now in charge of her finances. So this jackass decided he needed to liquidate some assets and he cashed in what he thought was a simple annuity from one of her insurance accounts. Well, it turns out it was an IRA and he cashed the whole thing in so now she has to pay taxes on it big time. Some people think they are so good at their jobs and don't know a damn thing. What a huge mistake that she has to pay for now. Idiot...

...talking about idiots.....

So we need to get our driveway reasphalted cause it's literally falling apart. Hubby called the township to get a referral for a good asphalt guy. He calls the guy and the guy told him he would come out Tuesday in the late afternoon and give us a quote. So I work Monday in order to be home Tuesday. I figured I wouldn't bother making dinner and hubby and I could go out and get something after he leaves. So we sit home ALL FREAKIN' DAY and no dinner and the guy doesn't even show up or even bother to call. By 6:30 I ran up to Burger King and we scarfed down some burgers. I am totally pissed! Like we have nothing better to do. Also, hubby was planning on running up to the cottage to turn the heat off by today or tomorrow but now we don't know if the a'hole is still coming or not this week. So our week plans have gone into the toilet. This weekend is our son's birthday and he wanted to be home by then so we could take him out to dinner like we do every year. Considering how the economy is so bad you would think that the guy would be grateful for a call for some work. It must be nice that he doesn't need the work that bad.

We still haven't heard from him....

Keno is doing GREAT!!! He is a real lap-sitter. He is either on my lap or my husbands. He and Mini Sue love hanging out together....I was going to post a picture but I have to get it downloaded. Next time.

That's about it for now....ciao

I had a great St. Patrick's Day afterall. I didn't really expect much from husband...actually expected to sit home and watch TV in a boring St. Pats way from him like previous years past. But the holy shamrocks were ashining above me and blest me with some husbandry niceness.

We left about 3:00 and went to O'Malley's in Livonia, not very many miles from our home. We got a table near the back and I ordered Irish Stew and he ordered Corned Beef sandwich. They had these Irish dancers come in and dance for us and they were really good. The girls were dressed in Irish dresses and were about 12-15 years old and danced the clog irish dances. Later, some guys wearing plaid kilts came in playing bagpipes and a drum. It was very St. Paddy's Day stuff.

I played KENO, of course, and won $6 bucks.....

Then we came home and our neighbors were out celebrating, so we grabbed a beer and walked down and joined them. So it was kinda of a St. Paddy's party and we drank some beer and chilled.

Then we walked home and I ironed my jacket for tomorrow cause I have to work tomorrow. Four more weeks of work!! Then I'm off for almost 10 months!!

I would be partieing way much more if I didn't have to work...but I have to work...so have to go to bed....

Ciao...

HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY!!

It's St. Patrick's Day and as a descendent of Michael and Mary Mahoney I'm going to be celebrating. But I have to work tomorrow, so can't be havin' too much of that green beer.

I'm hoping that maybe hubby and I can go to this Irish bar near us for an early meal before the big crowds come and have some Irish stew or corned beef or anything Irish and a couple glasses of the brew. I don't want to stay late cause it will be the first time we will be leaving Keno alone with Mini Sue and who knows what kind of mischief those two will get into.

I was up with Mini Sue last night several times cause of diahrrea...probably from the shots she got on Friday. So I'll see how she feels before I decide whether to venture out to a pub or not.

Keno is bugging me to come back downstairs. I've been up here awhile trying to list one lousy thing on Ebay. It took me several tries cause I kept getting booted off the site and had to keep starting over. What a pain. It always takes me forever to list anything on ebay cause of the problems and slowness of my computer.

Anyway, so I'll be celebrating St. Pat's Day....have a green beer on me everyone...and I hope everybody gets a little luck o' the Irish today.

KENO'S Home!

We finally got our boy, Keno...and I've been so busy with him I haven't had time to post or do much else. He is so damn cute and adorable!

When we got to the foster mom's house her friend came in carrying him. When I reached out to pet him, he yanked away scared. He is very timid and shy with strangers and it takes him awhile to warm up.

Brenda explained that he came from this lady's house who was a hoarder. She has probably 20 dogs...Pomeranians and Chihuahuas mainly. She just lets them breed and has intentions of selling the pups but ends up keeping them all. They have rescued over 10 of the dogs so far with her permission. She wants them to find them homes. She keeps track on the computer as to which ones have been adopted so far. She told them his name is Keno (and he certainly knows his name), and he was about 1 1/2 years old. Personally, I think he is much younger, more puppylike, and I'm hoping my vet can tell better when she examines him.

They got him all updated on all his shots, and I have his rabies certificate. They also had him neutered and microchipped. So I really don't have to do much except just take him to my vet for a first visit and get his records on record there and mainly get his heartworm preventions meds so he can continue in April. He is all set for March with his heartworm pill. Some of the dogs they rescued from the groups tested Positive for heartworm and had to get meds to clear it up before they can be adopted. Keno was okay, so he is just on the regular monthly prevention.

He was very lovable with his foster mom....jumping up on her lap and cuddling. He has been with her for about 6 weeks and I'm sure he thinks that his is home and she is his mom. She said it will take time for him to adjust and to not push things with him or it will scare him more. We had to sign these adoption papers for him and give her a check for $250 which is really cheap considering everything that has already been done for him. Their fees barely cover the costs they put into the dogs. They mainly just want to find them good homes. That is their priority....not making money.

We brought a crate and she put him in the crate. When we got home, we carried the crate in the house and opened the door. He ran out all scared and ran through the house, and we opened the back door and he ran out looking for an escape route! He came back inside and basically hid under my end table next to my chair all night. He didn't eat much or drink much. By evening, I was sneaking my hand down and petting him. I didn't try to pick him up just sneaking in little pets until he got more comfortable with that. Then I could pet him more and more.

By Monday he was being a little more friendly and when I was on the floor petting Mini Sue and playing with her, he came out and sat by me like he wanted the same thing. So I started petting him and gently picked him up. Later he was sitting on both our laps! He is a real cuddler. Eveytime I sit down, he jumps up on my lap and follows me around all over the house. He's here next to my computer wanting attention. I have to work today, so I hope he is fine with my husband. When I went to the pet store yesterday, he said that Keno kept looking for me.

The one think we really have to watch out with him is that he is a climber....not just climbs over baby gates but apparently he also knows how to climb cyclone fences! He puts his little feet in the holes and climbs and then jumps down on the other side. NOT A GOOD THING. So we really have to keep an eye on him when he is outside and if he even starts to do that, we have to discourage it big time. I don't want to have to worry about him getting out of the yard; and especially in Caseville!

Yep....he's a little pistol and we have our hands full!...but we're lovin' it!!

What time is it?

IT'S KENO TIME! We are picking him up today at 11:30 and I am so excited. So we'll be leaving here shortly cause it will take us about 35 mins to get there. I hope we don't get lost. And we're taking Mini Sue with us. She knows what's going on and she's not liking it one bit. Everytime I mention Keno's name she won't look at me. I know she is going to be jealous but I'm hoping she and him will form a bond eventually and she'll just get use to him being here. And then they can be friends.

She went to her class yesterday and still acts afraid of the other dogs. She doesn't like to socialize. Her whole world of Mini Sue, Lucky and Pepper is gone. That's why she needs Keno. She needs another canine friend to bond with.

I know that he is not a puppy and will not respond to us immediately. It will take time. I bought him a little toy and I'm taking treats with me. I wish I could make him understand that he is going to his "forever" home and there will be no more shuffling around. This is it. THIS is HOME!

Keno Day is coming...

So I got a call yesterday from Keno's foster mom. She called the vet and everything checked out. And she said that there is a lady near us that will do the 'home inspection', so that lady called last night and arranged to be at our house today at 1:00. I told her that I had to work but my husband would be here. I called him at 2:00 to see how things went. She had come and saw everything and wrote down stuff on these forms. She said that we should be bringing him home by Sunday.

She asked my husband if we were aware of Keno's history. He told her only about him being adopted out and it didn't work out. She said that his original owner was one of these people who gets lots of dogs and then can't take care of them. She probably had a dozen dogs in her house. She called this rescue place to come and take some of them. They wanted to go back and take more of them, but she won't let them in the house. So Keno has been living in this type of environment where he is use to being part of a pack because of all the dogs and not much socialization with humans. She feels that he will do much better in a home where there is another dog, like Mini Sue. She said he is a little rebel guy.

Well, he will be getting lots of one on one attention and loves and cuddles and kisses in this house, that's for sure....although it may take him awhile to warm up and learn to trust us.

I had already decided that IF I got another dog, it would be from a rescue shelter and would not be a puppy. I wanted an older dog..(Keno is almost 2 years). My first pick would have been another Chihuahua, but Keno fits the bill with his Chi/Pom mix....and definitely a black color like Lucky. I knew that I would not get another dog from a pet store or breeder. I wanted an older dog that hasn't had a good life so we could give him the best life ever!

I can't wait to pick him up on Sunday. Right now we are waiting for his foster mom to call and set up a definite time on Sunday. She already has someone else coming in the morning to pick up another rescue dog she has....Rowdy, a Pomeranian. They are busy Saturday with the Petco adoption thing going on.

I wish I could go get him right now!!

Keno is almost ours....

I'm getting excited. I think we are going to be getting Keno. Things look good. Yesterday I decided to also email the application to make sure that somebody got it, and I sent a letter with it explaining more in detail about us and why we thing Keno would be perfect for us. So today I got a phone call from his foster mom who lives in Ann Arbor. She was telling me how Keno had actually been adopted by a single lady who lived in a condo in Sterling Heights, but it didn't work out and she ended up bringing him back. She wanted me to know that Keno is very shy and doesn't adjust to strangers very easily and that it may take time for him to warm up and that he needs a loving and very patient home. And because of his breed (Chihuahua and Pomeranian) he can be a little nippy when he gets scared. That is one reason why the other lady brought him back. I guess he tried to bite her. Well no wonder! He was scared to death. I'm sure he thinks of his foster home as his home and all of a sudden some lady takes him away and expects him to cuddle with her. She said that she had told the lady to not push things with him but she kept pushing it and he rebelled. Then he ran out of the condo out in the rain in the dark and the lady couldn't get him to come to her, and she was afraid to reach out and pick him up cause she was afraid he would bite her again. So she called his foster mom who had to drive there and get Keno to come to her.

The lady I spoke to says that she feels that he would do better in a home where there is another small dog and with someone who is familiar with his breed. And that is US! We have owned 3 Pomeranians and a Chihuahua so we definitely understand the breed. Pomeranians can be very temperamental. I know that. Casey use to bite me all the time when he didn't feel like me touching him or picking him up, etc. And even Lucky had his days, although he was a much more socialable and loving dog for a Pom. Everything the lady told me about Keno was exactly everything I already know and expect.

Poor little guy is just so confused right now. I am guessing that some family originally got him and they probably had kids, and when his pomeranian temperament came out and nipped at one of the kids, they got rid of him. I know that his bio indicated "no kids". I totally understand that. Both Casey and Lucky were not very good around kids. So now he is with his foster mom and thinks it's his home and then he gets shuffled off again with a lady who doesn't understand him and has no patience. Well, that is for a reason. Cause he is meant to be with us. That's why fate guided me to look at Petfinders Saturday and my heart jumped when I saw his picture.

Okay...so anyway....she is going to call and check things out with our vet, and then find someone who lives closer to us to come and do the 'home inspection', and then if everything looks good, then Sunday my husband and I are going to drive out Sunday to her house and meet him.

They also do these pet adoptions at pet stores. Currently, he is scheduled to appear at the Petco one in Ann Arbor on Saturday. I was thinking of going but Mini Sue has her class Saturday unless I went early. But the lady said that it isn't positive that he will be there, and she would prefer that we meet him at her house on Sunday where it will be less stressful for him.

I'm sure that everything will check out good and we will be getting him, and it may take awhile for him to adjust, but he will be fine. She said that once he gets to trust you that he just loves kisses and to be cuddled, so he really is a very affectionate dog....but he needs to trust you and feel secure first. And that is a good thing. He shouldn't trust strangers. I don't want Mini Sue to trust strangers either. If she ever got loose and some people in a car saw her and wanted to take her, I would want her to bark, bite and RUN!

This rescue place really tries to find the right home for the right dog. They don't have an on-site place where all the dogs are kept in cages. All the dogs are in foster homes where they are taken care of and loved. She has Keno, Rowdy and some puppies right now in her home. Most places, like the pet stores and breeders, don't care where the dogs go. As long as you got the money, anybody can take them. This place is different. They have a very long application that asks a lot of questions. They check out your vet to make sure that the dog will get proper vet care when needed. They check out your home and the environment that the dog will be living. They interview you. It's almost like adopting a real child...haha.

I have to work tomorrow so I'm hoping that the home inspection will be after 6:00 tomorrow or Saturday. And I'm hoping that we can take him home with us on Sunday. I told Mini Sue about him and how she will be a 'big sister' now. She doesn't look too enthused. She will need some adjusting time also, I know. I am just so excited!!!!

Let's play KENO!

Last night I decided to browse Petfinders.com, and of course I saw the most perfect dog in the world. His name is Keno and he is a black pomeranian/chihuahua mix weighing in at a massive 4.5 lbs and his resemblance to Lucky when we first got him at 4 mos old is uncanny. Lucky was more like 15 lbs but when we got him at 4 mos he was more like 4.5 lbs. Hubby loved him as well, so we decided to fill out the adoption application and send it in.

Here's the link to see Keno. You may have to scroll down about 17 rows if you get on the main page with all the dog pictures. Then click on his picture and you can read about him and see more pics.

Filling out one of those adoption apps is like adopting a real kid. They want to know everything. One of the questions is "What arrangements have you made to care for the dog in the event you can no longer do so?".....ya mean, like if we die or something?? I guess I really haven't thought about it. But they want to know!

So I'm sending the application in tomorrow. Maybe he's already spoken for. If so, then no big deal, cause if he's meant to be with us, then he will be available for us. So we'll see....
