Celebrating a birthday...yesterday

Actually yesterday was my youngest's birthday...March 29. Hubby and I took him out for his annual birthday dinner at Brann's in Novi, a steakhouse. It seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating his very FIRST birthday. We were living in Wayne then in our first house.

First Birthday....

Today....One of Detroit's finest...

Where have all the years went???

Wednesday....

I am so disgusted with myself. Before Easter I think I finally lost about 5-6 pounds. Then Easter came and I've been eating jelly beans, chocolate malted eggs, cherry pie, ice cream....hell, I'm even still eating Xmas M&M's!...and I think I gained it back, cause my jeans are tight again. I AM SO FREAKIN' STUPID!! Okay, so tomorrow, I'm back to yogurt, cottage cheese, soup and eggs. Yeah, lots and lots of eggs. When I diet, I basically try to eat eggs, meat and cheese....all protein and very little carbs. And I need to get back to the gym. I was going pretty regular but when I started working, my work days messed up my gym days. The gym I go to has ladies days and guys days....so women go Tues-Thurs-Sat. I usually go Tues and Thurs, but can't if I hafta work. I need to get back to my walking now that it's getting nicer outside. The dogs need the exercise too!

So today I went to a church rummage sale. I had donated a bunch of stuff and I kept seeing my stuff which is weird. I bought back one of my coffee mugs...haha. I kept putting my things in better places so people would see them. I was starting to feel offended that nobody was buying my crap. I mean, maybe I don't want it, but it's still great crap for someone else!

Brinksterina (aka BRINKS) is being such a good little mama. She sits on her eggs keeping them warm. My hubby put some straw upstairs for her and she's been putting it in her little box next and it's so cute to watch her. She sits on her eggs and tucks the straw down underneath her. She takes a break once in awhile and does other things (like poop in my room). Today was nice so we put her in the dog cage and put her outside for awhile. She's back on her nest now. According to what I've read, male and female pigeons both incubate the eggs. The male sits on the eggs during the day and the female sits on them at night. So basically that is what she's been doing. She'll sit on them all night and during the day she takes a break. I don't know how long we will let her keep this up, but eventually we'll have to take the eggs away cause they ain't gonna hatch, unless some male pigeon snuck in one night and boinked her without our knowing about it...haha...

So I heard today that Richard Widmark died, and I'm thinking that he was already dead...like 10 years ago!! He lived a long life. We should all be so lucky. I always liked him. Besides his movies, I remember when he guest starred in one of the I Love Lucy shows when they were in Hollywood. Do actors do that anymore?...guest star on TV shows? There were a ton of famous actors and actresses that guest starred on Lucy's shows. HEY....Britney Spears just guest starred on How I Met Your Mother!!....and I missed it....damn....

On a more serious note....

There has been a story in the news...TV and newspaper....that some of you may have read about. A woman from the thumb area in Michigan was in Florida last week. While she was sunbathing on a boat with her parents, a sting ray jumped out of the water and into the boat hitting her so fiercely that it killed her. It was a totally unexpected and freak accident. She was a young widow of 55 years and had two sons.

The stories say that she was from Pigeon, MI. However, she was actually from the Caseville area and lived on Sand Point, but Sand Point for some reason has a Pigeon mailing address so that's confusing. Anyway, she was very involved in Caseville. She was a Caseville Eagles member, as I also am. She owned the Beadle Bay Marina there. She and her husband were involved in the organization of the very first Cheeseburger in Caseville...which is the BESTEST event ever! Her husband died unexpectantly from complications from routine shoulder surgery a couple years ago. My husband just had 'routine' shoulder surgery last May. His passing devastated her. They had been basically high school sweethearts and had been married for like over 30 years. So she went on with her life and ran the Marina on her own. She was looking forward to getting some Florida sunshine and spending time with her parents. She was last seen in her neighborhood walking her dog last Tuesday just before she left for Florida. By Thursday she was dead.

She rode in the Cheeseburger in Caseville parade last August and I took a picture of her. This year's Cheeseburger event will be dedicated to Judy Kay Zagorski. I hope she and Steve are together again.

Brinks and her Egg.....

Here is a picture of Brinks' little egg she laid on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Brinks sitting on her egg being a good mama. I put her teddy bear friends in her new nest since they were all part of her experience.

BRINKS LAID AN EGG...HAPPY EASTER...

Yep....I am so excited. Apparently Brinks is a She and not a He, cause he just laid a little white egg. I knew that it is mating season and I knew that he/she was acting all weird with nesting with those teddy bears. Today he/she was really acting weird. He/She kept knocking the bears down on the carpet and then nesting with them down there. Even the dogs ran upstairs and he/she didn't even fly away. I'm surprised that the one dog didn't get him/her. I'm thinking the dogs didn't see him/her sitting there on the carpet. Anyway, he/she's been acting really strange all day. So I'm on the computer and I kept hearing some strange sounds like his tail feathers were rustleing up against the wall and it wouldn't stop. So when I was going back downstairs, there was a little white egg laying on the carpet. Brinks was on the shelf sitting on the bears. Apparently, the bears were his/her nest. I was in shock to say the least.

I ran downstairs and showed my husband. Ironically, I had just earlier finished coloring eggs for Easter and I think he thought I was playing a joke. Tomorrow is Easter and Brinks gave us a real Easter egg!!

So we made a little nest out of a box lid for her with the bears and I put the egg in there and she's sitting on it. Whatever....it won't hatch or anything....it's just an egg. I read that females who don't mate with a male will still lay eggs but they are infertile.

Damn, I thought for sure Brinks was a male....what do I know about the sex of pigeons????? Maybe I'll have an egg for breakfast tomorrow...hahahahah....

PLOP...PLOP...PLOP.....

Tomorrow will be the first day of Spring!...finally...it can't come soon enough for me. This has been a really long winter. The last few days has been dreary and rainy. I want to put Brinks outside in his cage but it's not nice enough. Poor Brinks....he wants a mate. He just sits on the shelf with those teddy bears all day and coos at them. He keeps cuddling up to them and sitting on top of them like he's trying to mate or something. He really needs to find himself a pretty young pigeon-chick. When he was outside last weekend, these two doves were hanging around and he was all strutting around in his cage.

I finally got paid for those ebay items....yippee. The one guy said that he was on vacation with no computer and just got back. That happened to ME once. I put a bid on something just before I was going to go to Caseville. There was still a few days left for the auction and I didn't really expect to win. Well, my bid won and I wasn't home when the auction ended. The seller was sending me emails that I wasn't getting and he was starting to get upset. He was accusing me of ignoring him and he was new at ebay and didn't know what to do if I didn't pay, etc....poor guy. Anyway, I got home and read all his emails and immediately paid him thru paypal and sent him an email explaining how I was out-of-town and didn't expect to even win. I felt bad for him, cause I know what it's like to think someone is ignoring your emails and not paying.

PLOP....that's Brinks. Like every 5 minutes I hear a PLOP!....He is sitting on the shelf and I have newspapers on the floor underneath and he lets one drop and it goes PLOP...haha

Hubby went to the pet store today to get the dogs their dry food and he brought home a pamphlet about doves/pigeons. It said that they can live 20/25 years!! OMG....if we keep Brinks he will probably outlive us and I'll have to put him in our will or something. Another reason why he needs to be released. I don't want to be hearing PLOP for the next 20 years......

Today we put Brinks outside in his cage for awhile. He likes it outside. There were alot of birds hanging around the patio and he was watching them....a couple of them were mourning doves. Brinks had some peanut butter cookie crumbs in his cage and one little bird was trying to get it and Brinks was freaking out. I don't think the liked that bird trying to get his cookie!

We need to start putting him outside more and more now cause he has to get use to the environment again. We were doing that last Fall but then that damn hawk freaked me out and we got the early snow and Brinks ended up spending the winter with us. But this Spring he needs to be released. I know that. I get so sad when I think about it, but he simply can't stay here. For one thing, when I'm in Caseville during the summer, I like to keep the doors open to the backyard for the dogs. And I also open the big garage door when I need to get out the lawn mower, etc. If Brinks is in the garage he will fly out anyway. He has free reign in my upstairs here at home, but there is no way he can fly around inside my cottage....especially with the dogs. So unless my husband wants to stay home all summer with him, he has to be released. There just isn't any other way. As sad as it makes me.

Pipy needs votes!!...here is the link. She is the first dog photo and she's sitting in front of an American Flag type pillow. Please, please, please vote for Pipy. The contest runs to the end of the month. I'm hoping she will be the judge's pick anyway, like Brinks was....

I have two people who have not paid for their ebay item from me.....which totally ticks me off. I really hate when people do that. It will be one week tomorrow since the auction ended. I've sent two invoices plus a personal email. I have heard absolutely nothing from these losers. If I don't get paid by tomorrow, I will have to report them to Ebay as an unpaid dispute. It is such a waste of time waiting when I could be selling to the next highest bidder or relisting. I have their addresses. I told hubby I should send them a box of dog shit....hahaha

Tomorrow is St. Paddy's Day!! I'm working tomorrow so maybe hubby and I can go out and have some green beer when I get home....maybe....

Friday....TGIF

I worked yesterday so I didn't have to work today. Because I usually work on Fridays it made today seem like Saturday....weird. I spent all day going to estate sales. The first one was totally ridiculous. Apparently, the owner had been a major teddy bear collector. I mean she had about 3 room filled, and I mean filled with dozens and dozens and dozens of teddy bears. I have alot of bears myself, and I buy mainly Boyds Bears so I know a bit about them. And I know for a fact that Ebay has totally killed the secondary market for just about anything collectible anyway, but mainly Boyds Bears are just about worth zilch now. I don't care what any Boyd's Collector's Books say. So here are some Boyds bears with $40 and $60 prices on them. WHAT?? Even the mohair bears are not worth that. Some of the 'older' bears may be worth something, but most of the bears are simply not worth what people think they are. Even mohair bears.....the older mohair bears are worth something, but the newer ones are a dimadozen now. So get real estate sale people!!!

I had a Boyds bear worth according to the book around $40.....I gave it to a consignment store to try and sell for $20....the guy took all my Boyds bears and sold them on Ebay for practically nothing and then left town, and I never got a dime for them. Anyway, the one that I wanted $20 sold on Ebay for $2.25. They aren't even worth what they originally sold for. The prices at this sale were totally ridiculous.

So I go down in the basement and there is this little plastic round room thermometer shaped like a ship's wheel with no price. So I ask the guy down there how much it is and he says "Well, this ain't no five & dime."....who the hell said it was asswipe. So he says, "Well, buy more stuff and we'll give you a deal."....IT'S A PLASTIC THERMOMETER....Whaddaya want?...50 cents, a buck....yeah make me a deal!! I left and I didn't buy anything.

Hubby went to the other two sales with me. So at the first one there is this Pizzelle Iron that you can make these thin cookies with....on the stove, not electric; brand new in the box. I asked this little skinny *itch how much it is (cause no price again....God, I hate that!) So she asks this other woman who I heard say $2.00. So she says to me, $3.00 and put a $3 tag on the box. I told her that the other woman said $2.00, and she says "Oh, she did? Well, maybe SHE can give you a deal." So I'm in the bedroom and I wanted these shoes but can only find the right shoe, and since I have TWO feet...both left and right, I needed the other shoe. So I asked little Miss skinny ass where the other shoe could be, and she totally ignored me. So unless I wanted to hop on one foot everytime I wore it, I decided to forget the shoe.

Estate Sale #3 turned out better. I've been to their sales before and their prices are always good. Actually today was already 25% off, tomorrow will be 50% off and near the end of the day everything will be 75% off. So I bought a scary halloween mask....don't ask, cause I have no idea....I already got a weird look from hubby. Anyway, I bought a few other things too. There was this couch there that I called my son about and he said he already looked at it yesterday and it's too small for his living room. I'm like WTF.....it's a regular size couch....3 cushions. It was like brand new and a Broyhill, simple goldish tweed material...very classy looking with these buttons along the bottom for only $350 and 25% off!! It was easy a $1000 couch. Whatever....

Then I got the brainstorm idea to go to the nearby catholic church for their Friday night fish fry. We've never been to it. Actually, the Eagles in Caseville is the only fish fry I've ever been to that I can remember. Hubby agreed to go. We get there and there are all these people sitting at long tables in the gym and people sitting on chairs holding numbers. I ask where do we pay and was pointed to the end of a very long line. We get in line where somebody takes our order. We shuffle along slowly getting closer to where I think the food is. Finally, we get to a person who totals our order. Then the next person takes our money and gives us a number. Our number is 42. We find a place to sit and hear "number 16...number 16". OMG. Some woman was selling 50/50 tickets and she asks hubby if he was ever in the army and he said "yes, how did you know?", and she said "your hat."...His hat says Corona on it??? WHAT?? It's green anyway. So after about 20-30 minutes of interesting chit-chat hubby pokes me and says he thinks they said #42, and I'm sure they said "number 40....number 40". NO....he was saying "number 42...number 42". I jump up waving my number like I just won the lottery.

Oh, and why do people with babies sit them on the table?? Who wants a baby with a shitload of crap in their diapers or whatever sitting on a table people are going to be eating at later after they leave???? Good grief...have some common sense.

That was my day......

Tomorrow we are going to a wedding.....Oh joy, oh joy....a wedding. Another $100 down the drain. They will probably be divorced within the year. Wedding is at noon...and sorry I don't do noon weddings....so we'll show up at the reception, and if they give me a number, I'm leaving.

More pictures of BRINKS.....

"HEY, MY NAME IS BRINKS!".....Don't ya just love that little bird face??!!!

Brinks in his new "big boy" bathtub. He likes to take a bath at least once a week. His other birdbathtub was half the size and he barely fit in it.

Here's Brinks cuddling with his teddy bear girlfriend at night. I had to turn the light on in the hallway to snap the picture, so I think I kinda woke them up.

We finally got our health insurance reinstated!! The company finally saw our side of things and said that even though they do not usually do this, they will make an exception and reinstate us back to January. Well, I hope so....since it was their fault that we got cancelled in the first place. And wouldn't ya know....since I thought that we wouldn't get it back, I decided to go ahead and pay a couple of the medical bills from last January....and as soon as I did, we find out we get reinstated back to January. So now I have to contact the insurance company and put a claim in for the payments and get reimbursed. That should be another fun experience....

Have I mentioned how I LOVE estate sales??? Last weekend I went to a couple, and Thursday my son, hubby and I went to a couple. The first one we went to was horrendous to say the least. I don't know how anybody could have even lived in that house. I didn't even want to touch anything. There was so much stuff, people were having trouble getting around each other to even look at anything. I think we ended up buying some tools in the garage. And hubby bought some ceramic pig thing that you put on the wall and hang towels or something from its ears..! I don't know what he's going to do with it or where he's planning on putting it, but right now it's sitting on my stove...staring at me with those little beady marble eyes every time I walk by.

What's Brinks been up to??? He's been bonding with this one little teddy bear I have that sits on the shelf in the hallway. It is so cute...cause he's been sleeping with it at night. He cuddles up to it on the shelf. I took a picture of the two of them together. I have to get it downloaded. Since it's March, I'm thinking that maybe it's getting time for mating season, and Brinks' instincts are telling him to find someone to mate with, and he picked this teddy bear...haha. I bought a feathery parrot at one of the estate sales for him, but he ignores it. He likes teddy instead. He'll spend almost all day just sitting on that shelf with this bear, and sometimes when I come upstairs he does that warbling/cooing noise he makes like he's warning me to stay away from his "girlfriend". That's where he is right now...sitting on that shelf with his teddy bear.

Thursday I was on the computer and I couldn't find him. I guess I left the downstairs door open and when I went downstairs, there he was sitting on the mantle....little stinker!...he noticed that the door was ajar and he made his getaway. He kept flying around the room and into the kitchen everytime I tried to get him. The dogs were going nuts and I locked them in a room until I finally got him. Then I put his feathery butt back upstairs.

Time for bed......nite...

A prayer is needed......

On the right side of my blog are a list of other blogs I find interesting to read when I get the chance. One of them is Helpinghand4cancer....this is a blog written by Ken Jezowski who is battling cancer. Besides his blog, he also has an album with pictures. Anyway, he is not doing very well. His soulmate, Patty, has been typing his blog lately and letting everyone know what's going on. Anyway, things are not looking very good right now and she is asking everyone to please pray for Ken.

Ken is under hospice care now. He had a pic line put in where they could put the pain meds in easier as his stomach could no longer tolerate the meds. Because his pain level had increased so much, they are using stronger pain medication now. Patty has written that he has been unresponsive for the last few days.

Ken is an amazing person. His attitude and courage is amazing. His blogs made me laugh and cry. We are still hoping for a miracle.

Congrats to Brinks!

In that pet photo contest if you click on See Last Month's Results, you'll see that Brinks came in 3rd place of the viewer's choice, and FIRST PLACE in the judge's pick!

Now my son has little Pippi's picture in the dog contest section....he spells her name Pipy. I keep telling him that he spells her name wrong...haha.

We don't see Pippi anymore though cause he and his girlfriend broke up and she moved back into her fancy, schmancy $180,000 condo that daddy bought her, and she took Pippi with her cause she is the one that bought her. We'll miss her....Pippi, that is.
