Miss my dad....

30 years ago today I lost my father to cancer. I can't believe it's been that long. I remember my short time with him so vividly....Christmases, Thanksgivings, walking me down the aisle, visiting me in the hospital after his grandchildren were born, babysitting my kids and spending the night. Sometimes I still think I smell his pipe tobacco. I wish I had more time with him. I wish he could have seen and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great grandpa! He got cheated...we all did.

A Classic Night

Tonight was a real classic night. Hubby was in a good mood. The day started out with him going with me to an estate sale. On the way we saw an Art Festival held in our town. So we hit the sale and on the way home we went to the art festival. I mentioned to him that we should take a drive down Telegraph Rd and find a spot to watch the old classic cars drive by since it is Telegraph Cruise Day. We packed up a cooler of beers and a tote bag of chips and snacks and headed out down Telegraph Rd. We found a great place to park. There was a place in front of a bowling alley and next to White Castle where a lot of people were sitting. So we parked our car and set up our chairs, popped open a couple of brews and relaxed and watched the old classic cars drive by. We had the bathrooms in the bowling alley to use, and we had White Castle to go get burgers and fries. What more could we ask more?? We saw lots of nostalgic cars go by but the one car I didn't see was my favorite car I had....a 79 T Bird....damn, I loved that car the best. I saw lots of 55 Chevys, the first car I ever owned back when I was 18...and we saw some 68 Camaros, the car hubby had when I met him and I made him sell. I think it was a 68???? I remember he had a peace sign on the trunk. I made him trade it in for an orange 70 nova cause it had a bench seat and we needed that for the baby seat we would be needing. I remember they gave us $500 for the trade-in. My 55 Chevy I ended up selling for $5 to some tow-away place cause I was pissed off that it wouldn't start for the umpteenth time. Well, that was back in 66/67 so it was just an old car to me.

After it started getting dark (and we were running out of beer), I figured we were leaving and then my husband surprised me. He said "So do you want to go bowl a couple games as long as we're here?"....I'm like "What???". He repeated himself and I'm like "YeahHHHHHH, that would be fun".

Now we haven't bowled in like at least 25 YEARS!! So I'm really confused about how it all works now. First off, it costs more money. So we had to get the guy to give us money on our debit card (ATM machine was out of money). Then we got our shoes...and I had to leave ONE of my shoes as a deposit! We paid for one game and figured that would be good enough. And they have these computerized screens that automatically keeps your score!!...now that is so cool....

I could not believe how I bowled exactly the same way....My ball goes like a straight arrow and I even got 3 strikes the first game and got 105 score. That's what I use to get. Hubby got 58. He has this major curve to his ball and most of them ended up in the gutter even though he tried standing so far to the left he was almost into the other alley.

We were having such a good time we decided to bowl another game and I got 2 strikes for a total 100. Hubby did better and actually bowled a strike and got 84.

I'm sure that if we had bowled a third game, he would have bowled a 200 and I would have lapsed into a 50+......but we will never know cause we decided to go home.

It was almost midnight when we got home and MiniSue and Keno were ecstatic when we walked though the door....poor guys were left over 6 hours!...

But we had a really good time!!...old classic cars and bowling......like I was back in the 1960's....like a real date!

The Fifties were great....

Nothin' much going on. Went to a couple estate sales today. Tomorrow is the Telegraph Cruise so I'm hoping that hubby and I can go down to where my son and his girlfriend are gonna be and watch the old classic cars drive by.

I'm having a problem getting into my account with YouTube. I can't remember my password and I've changed it but it still won't work.

I bought some really old 1956 issues of Ladies Home Journal and McCalls as the estate sale. They are so fun to read. I love the advertising pictures of "new" appliances and the "latest" fashions and the look of "updated" kitchens. These magazines are super big and thick with pages and pages of articles and it only cost 35 cents! It's so nostalgic looking through the pages. Those were definitely the "good old days"! Tomorrow I should be seeing a few 1956 cars....

Well, off to bed....

Just wasn't my day.....

Today I got a "bleeping" ticket! I drove to my AAA office to get a quote for homeowner's insurance cause my State Farm is getting ridiculous. AAA quote was about $400 cheaper....huge savings....unless there's a catch somewhere that I don't see. And it's for more higher coverage too. I'm gonna call State Farm and find out why the hell they are so high compared to AAA and see how they explain it.

So anyway....I'm driving back home and at the intersection there's a long line of cars in the left turn lane and it's slow moving. I'm sitting through several lights. Finally I approached the intersection with the green arrow with several cars in front of me and we proceeded to turn left. As I crossed the crosswalk the arrow had turned yellow and the car in front of me turned and I completed my turn behind him just as the light turned red.

Up ahead I see this cop car turning on her lights to pull out and I figured someone must have ran a red light and when she got behind me I pulled over to the right to let her pass and she pulled over behind me. That's when I knew she was pulling ME over, and I'm thinking "For What??" I knew I wasn't speeding cause I had just turned. So she tells me that there is an officer parked at the gas station on the corner watching the drivers who turn when the light is red and he calls it to her. I told her that the light was yellow when I was already in the intersection and that I was just completing my turn when it must have turned red. She gave me a ticket anyway for "disobeyed traffic control device"....$115 and 2 pts. Now THAT Sucks big time!! I am so pissed.

I've been online reading about that offense and I see that there are tons of people getting that type of ticket now. Must be a new thing....a way for the cities to make money. People are being more conscious like myself about watching the speed limit and stopping at stop signs, etc...so they have to come up with another way to "get us"!

So anyway, I go into the Michigan State Police website where they explain traffic laws and I read this..."...unless it is dangerous to stop, you must stop when the light turns yellow. The only exception is when you are preparing to make a left turn and you are already within the intersection. You can complete your left turn after oncoming traffic has stopped, even if the light turns red."

I'm thinking of contesting this in court but I would have to call to get a date and with us leaving for Caseville in a couple weeks, I'm not sure if I can even make it. Also, I'm not absolutely positive that I was already over the crosswalk into the intersection when the arrow turned yellow or if I crossed into the intersection AFTER the arrow turned yellow. I mean, I wasn't thinking about it at the time....I'm behind a guy who is turning...the turn arrow was on and I simply completed my turn although I could see that the arrow had just turned red as I was turning. But what was my other option?? Stop in the middle of the intersection and back up...?

Stupid cops..

I wonder how many other people she stopped and gave the same type of ticket to this afternoon. I wonder how much money she made for Northville.

Stupid bitch....

My life in Caseville.....

Wow....I know I've been gone for quite awhile but I'm back now. I totally forgot to post a quick note letting people know that I was leaving for Caseville for awhile. I ended up staying a week longer than I had planned. I just got back tonight and I've been gone almost 3 freakin' weeks!

First it was the Fourth of July weekend. Hubby came up by that Friday and we went to the Bella Vista where our condo is to watch the fireworks off the beach. Except that it was so bleepin' cold that we ended up on the patio watching them over the trees. It felt more like Fourth of February fireworks! This summer is so pathetic, weatherwise.

Saturday we drove to Port Austin for the Farmer's Market. Then we went down to the county beach and sat on the boardwalk and watched the swimmers. Then we decided to go visit his cousin but we saw them pulling out of their driveway just as we were going to turn on their road....so we missed them.

Thursday was my birthday so we went out to eat at Shaggy J's in Pigeon. He had ribs and I had fish.

The following Saturday the Eagles Club had a Luau dinner dance going on. We were too cheap to pay the $30/couple charge so we stayed in the lounge area and ate chicken wings until we could get in for free. We still had an hour to enjoy the DJ and I did some dancing with friends. The DJ was really good. Next year, I think I'll spring for the whole thing.

Then after the DJ left, we all went into the lounge and drank more beer. We both ended up pretty tipsy and since every freakin cop in the state of MI was cruising the streets and hiding out in parking lots and basically stalking drivers, we thought it best for someone else to drive us home. I'm really glad of that, or I would still be in the Caseville area....like in jail, I'm sure.

When I got home, I ended up falling into the bathtub, bringing the shower curtain down with me and I couldn't get out. Hubby thought it was hilarious and got the camera and started snapping pictures. Very humiliating....hardyharhar!

Hubby left the following Tuesday and took Mini Sue and Keno home with him. I decided to stay another week, because the Eagles was having live music the following Saturday and there was a free concert of music in the park. Also my youngest son, his girlfriend and friends were coming up for the weekend.

Saturday was cold and rainy (pathetic, like I said) and I decided to skip the music in the park and just went up to the Eagles for the music there. Lots of people were there and the music was good. It was more of a 'listening' music, not so much 'dance' music. But they were really good. They did some folky type songs and Carly Simon and Elton John, etc. I watched my drinking and could drive home.

Sunday I spent the day with my son on the beach and at the pool. He had his jet-ski out and I finally got brave enough to get on it. I was scared to death, but his girlfriend was driving and she drives easy....unlike my son who drives like a maniac. I told him I'll ride it again when they come up again in August. Maybe in time I'll get use to it. I think I had my eyes closed most of the time and gripping on to her life jacket until my knuckles were white.

So I came home today and I'll be here for a couple weeks until I go back up for the infamous "CHEESEBURGER FESTIVAL"!!
