My Dry week in Caseville....
I just spent a week in Caseville and got back yesterday. We are having major well problems at our cottage. Had water when I got there, but the next day after I showered I noticed that the water pressure was getting weaker and weaker until I was getting nothing out of the faucets except sludgey stuff...yikes!
I called the plumber but he wasn't coming out until the next morning. My plumber is good but he only works mornings....then he heads up to the Eagles for lunch, etc and goes home for the rest of the day. Remember, it's a small town and that's how they do things up there. Luckily I have my little condo apartment up the road that I could go to.
So the plumber gets out the next day and found a lose tubing thingy that is attached to the pump....voila!, problem solved. He replaces part of it and attaches and tightens it up. Then he primed the well and started her up and the pressure started rising and I had water!
...at least for a few days anyway...
By Sunday I had noticed that my toilet hadn't filled. Didn't think too much of it cause it fills slow and sometimes I just have to get out the pitcher and fill the tank up myself. So I figured it will fill eventually and I left to go up to the Eagles for their Spagetti benefit dinner they were having. They also had a silent raffle and a 50/50 drawing. The benefit was to raise money to help someone who has cancer and isn't working.
Then after the dinner some of us went into the lounge and had a few drinks and I didn't get back to the cottage until close to 8:00. The toilet still hadn't filled and I turned on the faucet and NO WATER AGAIN. That's when I noticed that the pump was still running....running but not getting any water. I turned it off and had to wait until morning to call the plumber.
He came out the next morning but couldn't get the water up. He said that I have a deep well but a shallow pump and that alot of the shallow pumps are having problems getting water because of the low water levels what with all the dry hot summer we are having and lots of people using the water. Shallow pumps can only pump water that is down 25 feet....lower than that they can't pump it up....that's when you need a submersible pump, which most people have but we don't. He said that he has been replacing shallow pumps for people.
So that's what we have to do. Replace our pump with a submersible one. Well, I had to come home so they are ordering the parts and will have it replaced by next week. Then (hopefully), I'll have water when I go back up again in a couple weeks.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....another major unexpected bill!! I swear, it's been one thing after another since about the middle of December. 2011 has NOT been a good year. What else can go wrong?? I mean, just before I left for Caseville we lost power for a few days....then we had plumbing problems here at home and now this. Probably gonna cost us almost two grand. Yeah, like I don't have better things to spend my money on!!!
Whatever....it's only money
