And Life Goes On.....
I don't know what that means...but it just popped into my head when I needed to type in a "Title" for this post.
I've been up in Caseville for almost 2 weeks for the 4th of July holiday and got back earlier this week. Hubby drove up for a good week before he headed back. My son and his fiance and her daughter came up to the condo for a long weekend. Happily we had good weather and was able to lay out on the beach and ride the jetski, etc. Well, at least THEY rode the jet ski....I think I've been on it as a passenger a couple times and that's all I need. I'm not a big fan of water toys...well, except maybe those blow-up rafts, they're kinda relaxing. But I don't find sitting on top of an engine powered vehicle skimming across the water at 100 mph very relaxing. Maybe not 100 mph but it may as well be. But some people like it....me, I'll stay on the beach.
Then, of course, I hit all the garage sales I could find. And as long as hubby was there to watch the dogs, I took off for some of the farther cities to shop. Mainly I wanted to go to Bay City and shop at Younkers...I love that store. It's affiliated with the Parisian stores we have around here. The charge card I have can be used at both. Anyway, they always have great sales and I had a 15% off all-day coupon that was burning a hole in my wallet.
One Friday night hubby and I went to the Eagles for dinner and I played some of the pull-tabs. Hubby thinks the pull-tabs are a big waste of money. I took a few bucks over to the machine and he told me to just give the money to him instead...haha. So I won a buck here and there and also got a $5 winner. I was ahead by $9. He took the $5 bill. I used $3 to buy a round of beers and decided to put the last dollar into the pull-tab machine and buy a $1 ticket.
He says to me..."I'll give you back this $5 for that ticket."
I thought a minute and said...."Okay"...and I gave him the ticket and took the $5.
And I was smiling cause I figured the ticket was probably going to be another loser or maybe just another $1 winner and I would be ahead with the five bucks.
So he grabs the $5 out of my hand and says..."I change my mind"...!! And he gave me back the ticket.
I ripped off 3 of the 5 tabs and on the inner side I could read the actual winning amount before I even ripped off the last two....and it said $200!!! OMG!! I looked up at him and he could see by the look on my face that it was a good winner....or that I was just bluffing.
I ripped off the last two tabs and sure enough, there was the American Flag!! Yep...The American Flag picture was worth $200 bucks!
So I showed it to him and he couldn't believe it....heeheehee...
He kept asking me if I was sure....and I told him to take the ticket to the bartender and she will give him $200. And that's what he did and sure enough, she gave him $200...!
So now he understands why I play that 'stupid' game.....

But then yesterday my bathroom sink is backing up....hubby plunges it and it gets worse. Water won't go down at all. This morning, it's still standing. So we call the plumber. He comes out and has to take the trap apart and snake it way back to get it unclogged. We now have clear running drains. The total plumbing bill was exactly $200!!!!
Can ya believe it???!!!
So ya win some, ya lose some.....bye-bye $200

Must have been a small miracle to win the $200--the fates knew you'd need it in a couple of days.

I wish there was a private message box I could send this to but I guess there is not. I am trying to find out if the john Denton you spoke of passing in 2005 is the same john Denton that lived in Galveston for a short time around 1987. I did find a small obituary in the Michigan paper put there was no picture and it does not list Laurie whom I pretty sure was one of his sisters. I didn’t know Edith or Stephanie but I did look up phone numbers for them to try and confirm rather or not this was my friend from so many years ago. All numbers I have found have been disconnected. However I did find a Mary Denton on my space but I am a bit leary of contacting his wife as I don’t want to make any one uncomfortable. I have not spoke to him or seen him in over 24 years but I would like to know if this is the same john that lived in Galveston, TX around 1987. Any confirmation you can give would be greatly appreciated.
