REMEMBERING A FINE MAN....

My daughter-in-law's stepfather passed away suddenly last Saturday.   I never had the chance to meet him.  At the funeral, they always ask if anyone wants to come up and share a thought or an experience.  Since I had never met or really knew him, I felt I had nothing to contribute or share.  But I had heard about him; and my DIL's mother is on my Facebook, so I have read posts regarding their lives.  So maybe I do know a little about him.

This would by my eulogy for Dave......

David James Henry was born in the month of June some 60 years ago.  He was born to Native American parents.  He lived a normal life with family and friends growing up.  He married...had a couple of children...but as it happens with so many young couples, the marriage ended in divorce.  Several years later he met a beautiful redhead, and he felt a special warmth in his heart for her.  She was mesmerized by his dark eyes, his mane of dark hair, and his good looks.  He was indeed the tall, dark and handsome prince she had been waiting for.  She, too, had been divorced.  She had four children.  In today's world, that would have been considered....what they say, as "baggage".  But David didn't see it that way.....not at all.  He saw her children as frosting on the cake....four extra pieces of her life and he wanted it all.   After a 5 year courtship, he asked her to marry him.....she accepted.   He became the best step-dad to her children.  They regarded him as their father.  All four grew up to be fine responsible adults.  They learned from him.

They were truly soul-mates.  He was a hard-working man.....the best Chef ever!  Grandchildren came, and he was their grandpa.   The children always loved playing with grandpa.  He felt he had been so blessed with his family.....beautiful wife, children and grandchildren.

During the marriage they decided to extend their family.  Oh, not the human kind....more like the furry kind!   Dave was a great lover of animals.  He always had a soft spot for a little bundle of fur.  The most current addition to their family is a big boy cat named Toby.  Dave loved to have Toby jump up on his lap and lay with him.  He loved to stroke his fur.  They had a real bond.....dad and cat!  Toby is going to miss his dad.  I'm sure he is wondering where he is....when is he ever coming back to scratch him behind his ears again.    But animals have a keen sense.  I'm thinking that maybe Dave will come to him and explain things to him.

Throughout the marriage there has been medical crisis' for both Dave and Sandy.  But they were always there for each other.  She leaned on him...and he leaned on her.  They were each other's strength.   They prayed together and healed together.  They always got through each crisis.   This time was different.  Dave is now gone......It happened very quickly.  One minute he was looking into Sandy's face, and then what may have only felt like a second to him, he was looking into the face of Jesus.

David James Henry made a mark in the world.  He touched so many lives.  He will never be forgotten.
