I'd Drive A Long Ways for a Good Apple!

Okay...so I did alot of crying, whining and bitching on my last post, but it sure felt good to talk it out, even if it's just on a computer blog page. I know my life is pretty good. I may not be married to the most exciting or romantic man in the world...hardy-har-har...but at least he's someone I can count on. He's dependable and he's good at fixing things!! Which is great for me, cause I'm always breaking things.

So life goes on......

I drove up to Caseville last Thursday for a few days. I went by myself and left the dogs and the Pigeon home. It's nice to have the freedom to stop along the way and shop and not worry about the pets in the car. The Eagles Club was having an Ugly Sweater party on Saturday night, so I went up there wearing the most hideous sweater (in my opinion). It had huge sunflowers and bumblebees and lady bugs on it. But there were other hideous sweaters as well, so I didn't win...but we had alot of fun. There was a DJ and we all danced our asses off!

I got alot of yard work done while I was there.....and I put out all my halloween decorations inside my place. At night, I would light all my pumpkin smelling candles and just relaxed on the couch and watched TV in peace.

I left Tuesday. I decided to take a different route and drive past Caro and past Reese and go to Frankenmuth for a shopping trip. I mean, no dogs, no bird and no husband....I can drive aimlessly around and go wherever I want and shop and shop and shop!

One of the things that hubby wanted me to do is make sure I picked up some HoneyCrisp Apples while they are in season in the Caseville area. On my way Thursday I stopped at a big produce stand in Caro and bought 3 apples to try them out. Some years, the Honey Crisp apples are too sour and not a good batch. But these were perfect. So I made a mental note to make sure I stopped in Caro and buy a huge bag full of them on my way home.

Wellllllll, I was so excited to get to Frankenmuth I totally forgot to drive by the produce stand and get the damn apples! I was almost to Frankenmuth when I remembered. Should I turn around and go back??....20 miles or so? I figured that surely there must be some apple stands in the Frankenmuth area and I can take a chance and buy them there and hope they are of a good quality. I got to Frankenmuth and walked the whole town and shopped. But I never saw any produce stands. There was a Krogers....and I was so tempted....but buying apples at Krogers?, hell, I could do that at home.

So I did what a good wife should do. Hubby said to buy Honey Crisp apples and that is what I had to do. So instead of leaving Frankenmuth and driving south and getting on the expressway, which would be the faster way to go....I decided to drive ALLLLLLLL the way back to Caro and buy those damn apples! Luckily, the stand was still open when I got there and bought a big bag of them. Then I just drove home the way I always do.

Sooooooooo, after 40 years of marriage I get a day-old brat and he gets a whole bag of apples! Yeah, I know...I'm still bitchin' a little...

Disappointment...BIG TIME!

So the last time I posted I mentioned how it was going to be our 40th wedding anniversary and how much I was looking forward to having a good time. The 40th anniversary is a milestone. Sometimes people plan big things like Caribbean cruises or have parties with family and friends. I've been looking forward to this anniversary for awhile. Two years ago when my husband happened to be in the emergency room the eve of our anniversary and we spent our 38th anniversary in the hospital (he was there for a week), I mentioned to him how I would like to go to Niagara Falls for our "40th", and he thought that was fine with him....well, he was under alot of meds so he probably would have agreed to a trip to Europe as well!

Anyway....during the last couple of years we lost our Lucky and got Keno, along with our Mini Sue, and now we also have Junior, the Pigeon...so it was highly unlikely that we would be going anywhere....except Caseville, our course.

I decided that the weekend of our 40th wedding anniversary could be spent in Caseville with our little "family" and the Kinde Polka Fest on Saturday and a dinner on our actual anniversary on Sunday would be just fine. I had planned on going to the "Fireside Inn" cause I love that place and we hadn't been there in a couple years and then it was with other ppl so even longer by ourselves. YES, it was going to be a really nice weekend for our FORTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.

But was it?????

NOPE>>>>>

Hubby decided to screw everything up....The Polka Fest evening was a disaster. We were home by 9:00....

Sunday, we weren't talking and I spent the entire day and evening laying on the couch. I warmed up a day old brat in the microwave and THAT WAS MY ANNIVERSARY DINNER!

Don't want to go into details here.....but trust me, this was entirely his fault. My friends were there and they can attest to that!

I was hurt beyond belief....

Anybody...Couples....are even lucky to have a 40th wedding anniversary. There are so many milestone anniversaries....the 25th, the 30th, the 40th, and the 50th. And you really can't count on the 50th....I mean, even if you make it to the 50th, one of you might in a nursing home...or even dead!!!

So the 40th is probably the last milestone anniversary that a couple can enjoy.

And I was so looking forward to it...I really thought it was going to be a really fun weekend...

But it wasn't...

It was nothing...

Apparently, it meant nothing to him..

Apparently, I wasn't worth it...

Apparently, 40 years of living with me was only worth a microwave warmed up brat.
